What makes Idalia different
Idalia is a 2000s and 2010s suburb on the Ross River south of the city. It is best known for the Fairfield Waters estate and the Fairfield Central shopping centre. The homes are modern low-set block with tile or Colorbond roofs on 500 to 700 m2 blocks, flat and mostly unshaded. Idalia was hit hard by the February 2019 floods. Where the inverter and battery go is the first thing we decide on every job.
- 3,187 rooftop systems in postcode 4811, with 193 added in the year to July 2026
- New 4811 systems averaged 12.4 kW last year
- 200 batteries installed across 4811 in the 12 months to July 2026
- Inverters and batteries are mounted above the flood planning level on every Idalia job
- Ergon's regulated feed-in tariff of 13.4 cents/kWh applies to every exported kWh
What postcode 4811 has already put on its roofs
Every accredited solar and battery install in Australia is registered with the Clean Energy Regulator by postcode. These are the numbers for 4811, which covers Idalia.
Source: Clean Energy Regulator, postcode data for small-scale installations, data as at 31/07/2026. Counts are for the whole postcode, and the last 12 months will still rise because installers have a year to register certificates.

What we find on Idalia roofs
Idalia roofs are clean modern hips with good planes for 10 kW, and new systems in 4811 averaged 12.4 kW last year. The ground-level equipment is what needs thought: inverters and batteries are mounted above the flood planning level, often high on a garage wall. Cyclone Region C mounting applies to the roof, and airflow under the panels helps on 35 degree days.

What applies to a Idalia install
Council and network
Idalia has no heritage constraints, and panels on an existing dwelling are accepted development under the Townsville City Plan. Most of the suburb sits within the Ross River flood overlay, so inverters and batteries are mounted above the flood planning level as a condition of connection. Wind Region C engineering applies to the mounting. Ergon Energy is the network with the standard 5 kW single-phase export cap and the regulated feed-in tariff of 13.4 cents.
STC rebate in Idalia
Idalia is in STC Zone 2 (rating 1.536). With a 5-year deeming period, a 6.6 kW system earns about 50 certificates, roughly $1,950 at $39 each, and a 10 kW system about 76, roughly $2,964. We claim it for you and take it off the quote.
Battery discount
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program cuts roughly 30 percent off the installed cost of a home battery, stepping down each year to 2030. Postcode 4811 added 200 batteries in the year to July 2026. We size the battery to your evening use, not the biggest unit on the truck.
Asked by Idalia homeowners
Where do you put the inverter in a flood zone?
High on a garage or external wall above the flood planning level, or in the carport ceiling space. Batteries go on a raised wall mount. We confirm the level for your address from the council flood mapping before quoting.
Did solar systems survive the 2019 Idalia floods?
Roof panels were unaffected. Inverters and batteries mounted low were lost. That is why flood-aware placement is a condition of connection here and standard on every job we design.
Can the system charge my EV during the day?
Yes. A 10 kW array typically has 4 to 6 kW spare through the middle of the day, even with the air conditioning running. A solar-aware charger draws only what the roof is producing.
